Alan Ross, who retired from Gill & Robinson in 2000, has died.

Mr Ross was born in Edinburgh in1936 and graduated with a degree in forestry from Edinburgh University in 1958.

After two years‘ national service in the education corps he worked for the forestry commission in Nigeria until 1964.

He married Dorothy in 1960. They had three children – Iain, Neil and Alison – and later four grandchildren – Emma, Stuart, Jamie and Ellie.

In 1964 Mr Ross joined Brandt’s in Newcastle upon Tyne and then Wetherby in West Yorkshire. He later moved to the Wirral and Humberside, where he worked for Churchill and Sim. He then went on to work for himself in Cherry Burton before joining Gill & Robinson, where he remained until he retired in 2000.

In 2008 Mr Ross and his wife moved to Stone in Staffordshire to be closer to their family. In his retirement he continued to enjoy spending time with his family, watching rugby, tending to his cactus collection, attending pub quizzes, and gardening and he was a keen bridge player.
