New Zealand is considering a relaxation of export controls on some processed and semi-processed timber.
The country’s primary production select committee, which is carrying out an inquiry into sustainable forest management on private land, is recommending the controls be relaxed to allow greater market opportunities.
However, it says a ban on the export of logs or woodchips should be retained to help local processors.
