Big players in New Zealand’s forestry industry are clubbing together to market and sell their logs overseas.

The receivers of the Central North Island Forestry Partnership (CNIFP) and Carter Holt Harvey will form a joint export company and invite others to join, including Fletcher Forests. It is expected to be operational by early next year.

Potential advantages include common standards and processes, which should reduce costs of supply and help promote radiata pine in new and developing markets, particularly Asia.

CNIFP, which has large forestry assets, remains unsold two years after going into receivership. A plan to sell it to Fletcher and the Chinese government-owned Citic collapsed in the summer.
