A feasibility study into the creation of a co-generation plant at a forestry mill on New Zealand’s North Island is under way.
Genesis Power Ltd and Norske Skog are conducting the study which will concentrate on the potential for contributing to the co-generation of Norske Slog’s thermal mechanical pulp mill and paper machines, Carter Holt Harvey‘s chemical pulp plant and consumer tissue plant, and Fletcher Forests‘ sawmill and timber drying plant.
The co-gen plant would use an open-cycle gas turbine coupled to a steam turbine and a multi-fuel boiler that would burn waste in the form of biomass and furnace gas to supply steam and electricity to the site.
