A combination of “all the good things coming together at the same time” led timber supplier North Yorkshire Timber (NYT) to top £1m sales in a month for the first time in April.

Managing director Peter Kershaw said: “We noticed at some of our bigger branches in particular better performances in March, so we gathered some momentum at the start of the calendar year and have been firing well on all cylinders since.”

Sales and marketing director Nick Kershaw said the result was helped by “significant orders” amounting to around £100,000 from a property developer for windows and carcassing.

Calling for support from suppliers he said: “We are now a substantial independent business and we need help from suppliers in terms of the right deals to maintain growth.”

NYT is now installed at its new £1.5m purpose-built head office and sales centre at Northallerton Business Park.

Peter Kershaw said: “The move marks the next phase in the development of the company and we’re aiming for significant growth over the next few years.

“With this new facility we’re looking to the future as well as providing better displays, improved access and more parking for our customers.”

The new development gives 5,000ft2 office accommodation, 5,000ft2 sales area and 12,000ft2 internal storage as well as 22,000ft2 of external storage and parking for 50 customer vehicles.

NYT, which supplies the trade and public, was established in 1979 and has grown to a turnover of £10m.
