The decision was made in response to a slowdown in the timber business due to a lower supply of raw materials globally.
NWP, via its subsidiary NWP Industries Sdn Bhd (NWPI) , was awarded Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification last August.
Company executive director Wong See Ming said this would enable NWPI to actively promote its goods and to tap into markets that only accepted only chain of custody certified wood-based products.
He added: “We see this market growing which is why certification is important.”
At present, around 80% of NWP’s revenue comes from overseas markets such as North America, Japan, Britain and the Netherlands.
The company expects certification to have a positive impact in the next financial year.
