Norway’s sawn timber imports dipped by 90,000m³ last year to 199,000m³, according to the Nordic Forest Owners’ Association.
Overall imports of wood (mainly from Sweden) totalled 1.5 million m3, a reduction of 400,000m³ (21%) compared to 2007, and the lowest for more than 20 years.
But the Norwegian Forest Owners’ Federation said the decline had made it easier for Norway’s forest owners to find markets for their timber all through 2008.
Domestic felling remained at the same level as 2007 – 8.1 million m³ – despite lower timber prices.
