Encouraged by improving construction levels in the south-east, the company has appointed its first sales representative in the region, Charles Clark, and is targeting its recently expanded fencing product capacity at the area.

"We’ve had a lot of demand from the area," said Simon Ellis, A&J Scott marketing manager. "It’s the most populated part of the country. We’ve had occasional customers in the south-east in the past but haulage was too big an issue to make it a regular thing."

He said A&J Scott had made improvements to its haulage services and the appointment of Dartford-based Charles Clark, who formerly worked for EE Olley, would help develop business among independent merchants in the region.

"We have reacted to circumstances. The increased construction activity first became apparent in the south-east," he said.

Before Mr Clark’s appointment, A&J Scott’s Midlands sales team handled business from the south-east.

The company has recently increased its production and treatment capacity for the fencing and outdoor product market by 10%.

Further mill investment in the near future is expected to add a further total mill capacity of 25%, the lion’s share of which will be targeted at the fencing and outdoor products sector.

About 75% of the company’s production is focused on fencing and outdoor wood products.
