Energy minister Malcolm Wicks has officially opened the biomass plant at Norbord’s chipboard and MDF production facility at Cowie in Central Scotland.
The focus of a £2.5m investment, the biomass plant is helping Norbord to derive 70% of its fuel requirements from process residues.
Norbord’s director of health, safety and environmental affairs Steve Roebuck has confirmed that the biomass plant will use no virgin fibre, for which “demand is already outstripping supply”.
