Norbord has increased the FSC-certified timber content in its MDF and OSB to between 60% and 70%.

The company said that the rise – previously the figure was between 40% and 50% – will help to differentiate its products from “many of its European competitors”.

Norbord’s senior wood buyer George Webb said that the move would also help customers meet their “growing requirements on sustainability”.

“Many are now demanding that our products carry the FSC label,” he said. “UK housebuilders as well as a large number of retailers and users of board products are looking to their suppliers to obtain certification and this is going to be increasingly important in terms of market access.”

Norbord is also revising its chain of custody standard to allow for the inclusion of FSC-verified post-consumer recycled wood in its certified content “percentage claims”.
