Nobord says its Cowie plant is the company’s first site outside of North America to receive Safety Star certification.
The successful certification of Cowie is part of Norbord’s plan to have all its European sites Safety Star accredited by this autumn.
The Safety Star programme is based on the Occupational Health and Safety Organisation’s voluntary protection programme and includes 23 of its own safety expectations. It is designed to go well beyond regulatory health and safety requirements.
“Cowie joins three of our North American mills that have already achieved this important milestone,” said Barrie Shineton, Norbord president and CEO.
“I’m especially pleased that Cowie has set a strong example for our remaining European mills as they move their own certification process forward.”
