German timber frame house manufacturer WeberHaus is experiencing difficulties in finding a plot to build a UK showhome.
The company, which opened a UK office in the summer, has looked at more than 100 sites across the country but found the plots were either too rural, had no planning permission or lacked sufficient access for a crane.
WeberHaus’ UK representative Hans Kohl said the company is now offering to buy self-builders’ plots as means of building its showhome, with the option of selling the house back to them after about six months.
He said several plot owners had already contacted Brighton-based WeberHaus and some will fly over to Germany to see the company’s production facility.
Mr Kohl said: “It is very different here compared to Germany, where you do not have long delays or lots of big developers with large land banks.”
Meanwhile, WeberHaus has submitted detailed plans for its joint entry with building contractor William Verry Ltd in the government’s Design for Manufacture competition.
