A new Sustainable Forests Bill has been passed through parliament in Victoria, Australia without amendments, despite objections by environmentalists and the timber industry.
The green groups maintain the bill discriminates against forest protestors and does little to improve sustainability, while the timber sector said the abolition of the timber licence system, which is to be replaced with contracts, will turn contractors away from the industry.
