The Northern Ireland Timber Trade Association (NITTA) has asked the Timber Trade Federation to help it promote timber in Northern Ireland more effectively.

A NITTA spokesperson said the association’s members pay in the region of £70,000 a year to the TTF and added: “We might be better off doing our own thing.”

He said that the 10 main members of NITTA have provisionally tendered their resignations to the TTF pending a new agreement on timber promotion in Northern Ireland and explained: “If you are going to resign in any year you have to do so by October 1. By October 1 all 10 members had submitted their resignations but it is only a precautionary measure pending negotiations with the TTF.

“The resignations will take effect on January 1 if the negotiations don’t succeed. We plan to have a meeting in December to decide what we are to do.”
