Nexfor has reduced the staff at its South Molton chipboard and laminated products factory by 13% to boost the plant’s competitiveness.
Ninety of the 670-strong workforce were told in December their jobs were going – 30 part-timers to go immediately and 60 full-timers by the end of January.
South Molton site director Karl Morris said: ‘There is a need to streamline production in order to ensure we remain competitive. This move signals a strengthening rather than weakening of the company’s position and, along with future capital investment, will help secure the long-term future of the plant.’
