Bio-security officials are holding meetings to try and reach a resolution to reduce the amount of methyl bromide used on exports of timber from New Zealand to Australia.
The fumigation process, required by Australian border regulations, is concerning New Zealanders living close to Port Nelson. However port officials say safety measures are in place, including the installation of extraction fans and taller chimney stacks, and a monitoring process has shown there are no health risks to residents.
