A new breed of tyre is helping James Jones & Sons Ltd lessen its impact on the environment.

Michelin’s X One MaxiTrailer tyres have been trialled by James Jones on specially adapted trailers operating on rural and forest roads in Scotland to see how they can reduce the impact under foot.

Dennison and SDC trailers were fitted with the tyres, as well as the Tireboss central tyre inflation system, in order to increase the footprint and give more support to the vehicle.

The result was a reduction in soil erosion and damage to the ground, as well as an extended service life for the tyres.

“With tyre life extended it means that tyre costs and related services have also been cut,” said Jonathan Ritchie, harvesting and transport manager at James Jones.

“Drivers have reported improved comfort levels while giving better performance on tarred roads but more so on forest roads and especially in wet and muddy conditions.”

Mr Ritchie added the trial has persuaded James Jones to implement an all Michelin-policy across its fleet.
