Engineered timber and panels are strongly featured in the new Wolseley House at BuildStore’s National Self-Build Renovation Centre in Swindon.

The house, which marks the launch of a partnerhship between the builders merchant chain and timber frame manufacturer Frame Wise, features Boise Cascade’s BCI joists and Versa-Lam LVL, Norbord’s Caberdek T&G flooring and 9mm Sterling OSB (sheathing and sarking), plus Crown Timber’s CLS studwork, head binders and soleplates, softwood lintels and TR26 roof timbers.

MiTek’s Posi-Joists and Glidevale’s Corovin and Thermo Reflex membranes and glulam beams also feature.

The 1,500ft² three-bedroom house serves as a demonstration and education centre, including a full lecture theatre.

Frame Wise designed the structure so key components such as floor joists and thermal insulation are partially exposed.

Frame Wise says it was keen to increase its growing self-build timber frame business with Wolseley, concentrating on the design and production of timber frame components, while letting the merchant handle all other materials-related enquiries.
