Plantation timber resources have prompted plans to build two new sawmills in New South Wales, Australia.

McVicar Timber Group of New Zealand plans to build a US$7.1m sawmill in Quirindi, NSW, according to industry newsletter Random Lengths International.

The plant could process 100,000 tons of softwood logs per year.

Meanwhile Queensland-based Allied Timber products proposes to build a US$8.4m sawmill in Bathurst, capable of processing 90,000 tons of softwood per year.
