Two proposed qualifications for sawmilling will be submitted to the government’s qualification approval body in October.

The significant milestone is a result of work by Proskills and several dedicated individuals from the timber industry.

Timber Trade Federation chief executive John White said it had taken a great deal of work to get the qualifications to submission stage.

He thanked Jackie Beazeley and Helen Hewitt and the Proskills team as well as the members of the wood industry board chaired by Arbor Forest Products’ Peter Kelly and the Qualification Reform Group for their involvement.

The proposed sawmilling qualifications cover a wide area, including handling of round timber, drying, using machinery and sharpening and maintaining tooling.

They are part of a suite of qualifications being developed for the industry.
