The new owners of Swedish sawmill Jarl-Tra AB are embarking on a major investment to grow production capacity by 25%.

The mill in Broakulla has been sold by the Jarl brothers to the Gothenburg-based Profura Company and Bridghill AB.

A multi-million kronor investment is now being made in a computer guidance system for the main mill.

Bernt Ivarsson, Profura’s owner, said: “I am glad to secure the future of a well-known sawmilling company with investment in increased capacity and new technology, particularly at a time when the huge resources within the forests may otherwise go to waste for the forest owners.”

Henrik Jarl, mill managing director, said the change in ownership had secured the future of the company.

He said: “Jarl-Tra’s intention will be to maintain a high export volume, to service existing customers, develop new products and markets with certified timber products and increase sales to the Far East and US.”

Jarl-Tra has a turnover of SKr220m and production output in 2005 is expected to reach about 120,000m3.
