A new timber importing company is bringing in Forest Stewardship Council-certified construction timber to the UK from Latvia.

Planed carcassing, CLS and studs are among the products already being imported by KAAST (UK) Ltd.

Andrew Bullard, KAAST (UK) Ltd director, said the operation would supply about 30-40,000m3 of timber annually to merchant and timber frame customers.

Mr Bullard, who reported a good initial reaction from customers, described the venture as a new concept in supply, with orders being delivered direct to customers by truck from Latvia. He said transporting timber by this method would cut out port damage.

He said: “We feel this is a new way of being able to offer a pick-a-pack service direct from the producers at a competitive price and on time.”

Mr Bullard said direct delivery cuts out the costs of loading timber onto vessels, shipping and UK haulage.

The company has offices in Riga and access to low pressure treatment facilities using Arch Timber Protection’s Vacsol Aqua.
