The Kenyan goverment’s forest Bill is ready for tabling in parliament according to the country’s environment and natural resources minister Joseph Kamotho.

Speaking at an international workshop on sustainable forest management at the Kenya Forest Research Institute headquarters at Muguga, Mr Kamotho said the Bill will create the Environmental Protection Act which will criminalise activities that destroy the environment.

A newly created National Environmental Management Authority will co-ordinate environmental management issues and local people will be able to participate.

A forestry master plan has been created to improve forest development in the country and back up the forest Bill once it comes into being.
