Family-owned A&J Ashton has been trading in Laindon, Essex, for 50 years and the directors said they wanted to retire. However, an outline planning application for 24 flats was withdrawn after objections from local residents.
Director Danny Ashton said the business would continue to trade, but long term plans were to sell the site. A spokesperson confirmed the family would be submitting a new application.
Annie Ashton, who opened the yard with her husband Joseph and runs it with her sons Danny and Joe, said: “We have enjoyed every minute of running the yard, but we are all getting older.”
