The company, Hardwood Timber Sales Ltd, has already won several big contracts, including a £100,000 job to supply American oak engineered flooring for an apartment development in Liverpool.

Hardwood Timber Sales, set up by John McCoy, Tony Collins and John Crosbie, has also achieved Forest Stewardship Council and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes chain of custody certification.

Mr McCoy said the company was looking to hit a £2m turnover in its first year and had plans to buy a site and take on sales staff. Currently, it is operating from the former Vincent Murphy site.

Hardwood Timber Sales is bringing in containers on a weekly basis and currently has £500,000 of landed stock, mainly a mixture of US and European hardwoods. It also aims to supply other wood products to offer a complete service to customers.

The company has invested in machinery to produce a range of profiles for customers, which include door manufacturers, joinery companies and shopfitters.

Mr McCoy said: “Our aim is to grow and establish Hardwood Timber Sales as a major importer offering a more personal service and quick response to enquiries.”

He said he and his fellow directors identifed a market in Liverpool as there were not many importers left in the north-west.
