A new sawmilling and wood industry federation has been launched in Germany.

Bundesverband Säge- und Holzindustrie Deutschland has been created by a number of German sawmillers in an attempt to overcome the competition between different elements of the timber industry and present a more unified and outward-looking face.

The federation said existing sawmilling representational organisations were organised at regional level with federal structures, with policy largely determined by functionary interests and companies losing direct control.

The new group will have three regional offices – north/east, west and south – with the task of improving the political and social perception and economic parameters of German sawmillers.

It is calling for future lobbying activities to be organised at a national and international level.
