Papua New Guinea will introduce regulations to improve downstream processing of forest products.
Key areas will include the creation of timber seasoning schedules, introduction of timber grading rules, improvement of timber treatment standards and new competency test procedures for skilled employees in the industry.
They will be introduced in consultation with the Timber Industry Training College.
Performance of workers will be monitored to ensure reduced environmental impact on soil, water quality and residuals in logging areas.
