Structurlam Products, a manufacturer of glulam beams, has inaugurated its new cross-laminated timber plant in Okanagan Falls, Canada.

The company wants to see its new product, called CrossLam, replace concrete in commercial and industrial construction.

The factory, which secured C$6m funding from provincial and federal governments, is expected to take its first orders this month.

It is the first production facility of its kind in western Canada and the largest in western North America.

Locally sourced raw material, including western hemlock and mountain pine beetle-killed wood will be used.
