A recent London meeting attended by several representatives of the Timber Industry Accord group agreed to set up the body, as a legal entity trade association, to operate and deliver a single PR and lobbying voice on behalf of all interested timber industry associations.
An inaugural board was appointed, and talks on funding and a name were discussed, as well as the need to draw up and agree a membership manifesto.
Setting up a meeting with industry promotional group Wood for Good to discuss working together was also highlighted, as well as setting up a "vigorous" public affairs programme.
Roy Wakeman, of the Performance Timber Products Group, was elected chairman.
TTJ understands that it is still early days for the new initiative, which has been formed out of the Timber Industry Accord – which 14 timber sector groups have signed up to in order to work together for the greater interests of the industry.
The first priority will be to create a centre of communication excellence through which all members’ issues and voice can be used to the greatest effect.
