TTF president Martin Gale gave the clean bill of health at the North East Coast Timber Trade Association’s (NETTA) annual event at the Assembly Rooms.

More new members have joined in recent weeks and will be confirmed by the TTF soon.

Mr Gale also told the event that the EU Timber Regulation was currently top of the federation’s agenda.

NETTA chairman James Southern said the association had experienced a busy 2012, organising competitions and projects with universities, colleges and schools, as well as donating timber products.

He highlighted the donation of a wooden outdoor classroom to the South Tyneside Early Excellence Centre (STEEC) to use in its Forest School.Marina Kynoch of STEEC was at the dinner to describe the school’s work and thank the trade for the donation.

NETTA also presented its 26th Annual Structural Awards, sponsored by SCA Timber. The prize went to Alice Hamlin from Northumbria University.

The competition, judged by TRADA, challenged students to design a specialist library to embody the ethos of Newcastle’s Literary & Philosophical Society’s Library which opened in 1793.
