Latvian timber producer Nelss Ltd has opened a €15m production line to improve its supply of wood products to customers.

The line, which includes planing, grading, sorting and packaging equipment, was supplied by Austrian firm Springer and Slovenia-based Ledinek Engineering and provides high-speed planing of 600m/mim and grading of 180 boards/min.

“This is an important investment for Nelss in terms of us being able to provide our customers with the enhanced products they require, in a seriously efficient way,” said Nelss managing director Uldis Asars.

“The beauty of this line is it gives us not only fantastic efficiency but greater flexibility.”

Nelss’s sawmill has the capacity to produce up to 200,000m3 of sawn timber a year, with 140,000m3 destined for international markets, including central Europe, the UK, Japan and America.
