Briman Joinery‘s new £500,000 factory building, developed to meet sales growth in the self-build and conversions sector, has been officially opened by local MP Ian Lidell-Grainger.

The additional 6,000ft2 of production and office space doubles the Bridgwater-based company’s production capacity.

Briman says demand for its specialist products has increased as more homeowners and self-builders opt for the “natural look”. It reports a variety of timbers being specified for external and internal joinery in refurbishment of older properties or restoration of period dwellings.

Demand from farmers and builders converting old barns and farm buildings for homes or holiday lets has continued to be strong across the south and south-west, generating orders for windows, doors, glass screens and traditional roof trusses.

Development director Norman Hucker said demand had grown steadily over the past few years as part of the trend back to individual designs and traditional values in country properties.

Co-director Brian Hucker said: “We saw our sales break through the £1m mark last year and we are looking forward to adding a further £400,000 to this figure within the next year with the support of our talented and committed workforce whose efforts have been the key to achieving the success we have all shared in recent years.”

An additional £50,000 worth of machinery is being delivered in June to improve production efficiency.

The company, a member of the British Woodworking Federation, invited suppliers and customers along to the opening.
