Teak exports from Myanmar fell by 16.6% to 177,582m3 during the first eight months of 2002 compared with the same period last year.

Myanmar Timber Enterprise said hardwood exports rose 48.7% to 320,073m3, while total export earnings from both teak and hardwood was US$186.76m.

About 75% of the world teak market is estimated to be produced in Myanmar. Its forests have yielded about 200,000 tons of teak each year since the 1990s.
