Pakistan’s president Pervez Musharraf has called for action to manage the country’s forest resources sustainably.

Mr Musharraf said forests, which make up just 5% of Pakistan’s land area, are an important renewable resource ensuring sustained supplies of domestic fuel wood and industrial timber, as well as helping mitigate the affects of climate change.

He described the launch of the Monsoon Tree Planting Campaign as an important national event that helps citizens participate in the country’s afforestation.
