Timber window and door maker Mumford & Wood has launched into the wood conservatory market.

The Tiptree-based manufacturer, which will also be making glass-houses, orangeries and roof lanterns under the Mumford & Wood Garden Rooms label, sees the move as a natural transition and says it is partly a response to customer demand.

“Our casements, doorsets and bifold doors will be incorporated into the garden room designs,” said sales and marketing director Chris Wood. “Some would say [the diversification] is not before time.”

A spokesperson for the company said it was targeting the newbuild/developer, replacement and refurbishment and self-build markets. And it aimed to sell garden rooms as stand-alone products, but also as packages with its windows and doors.

“Customers do want to buy products that match, both in quality and design,” she said. “It’s a natural combination.”

Mumford & Wood also has the advantage of being able to call on the experience of conservatory specialist English Glass House, a sister company in the Performance Timber Group.

“And the company has taken on Ben Greenwood from English Glass House to give them added expertise in the market,” said the spokesperson.
