Australian construction firm Multiplex Group has officially changed its name to Brookfield Multiplex Ltd after its takeover by Canadian private equity firm and timberland manager Brookfield Asset Management.

The name change will affect the company’s Australian and New Zealand operations and will include name changes for a range of its divisional brands.

Brookfield manages around 2.5 million acres of timberlands in North and Latin America, including 1.1 million acres in New Brunswick and Maine through the Acadian Timber Income Fund and 635,000 acres of timberlands in British Columbia through Island Timberlands. It also has holdings in the power, property and infrastructure markets.

In May 2007, Brookfield announced it was spinning off its timber and electricity transmission assets into a publicly-listed infrastructure partnership.
