The mould for the £30m 700-tonne Mirabella V, the world’s largest single-masted yacht, was created with hundreds of Medite 313 moisture-resistant MDF panels from Weyerhaeuser.

The giant mould was made from Neat Concepts’ Neatform Bendy MDF, itself made from Medite 313, slot cut to enable precision shaping.

Peter Holloway, project manager for the VT Shipbuilding Group which built the Mirabella V, said: “If there was one material or production method I wouldn’t change, Bendy MDF would be it. It is an excellent product and one which provided an extremely cost-effective and workable solution for developing the hull.”
