Alistair Gray has retired from Pinelog, the Bakewell-based timber leisure building business, after 36 years’ service.

Mr Gray joined Pinelog two years after the business was formed in 1972 and he rose to become managing director in 1993, a position he held until just over a year ago, when he handed over to Nick Grayson. Over the 36 years his name became synonymous with the company and he was sometimes referred to as “Mr Pinelog”.

To mark his career, Pinelog Group, the parent company which also owns Darwin Forest Country Park through its Pinelodge Holidays subsidiary, threw a ‘fun’ dinner in thenew Little Monkeys Play Centre at Darwin Forest, which Pinelog built.

The following day the staff and workforce of Pinelog congregated in the Bakewell factory to toast Mr Gray. Dick Wood, who can boast 38 years’ service, presented a camera to Mr Gray.
