An American reclaimed flooring manufacturer claims to be the first company of its kind to turn wood waste into fuel and electricty.

Virginia-based Mountain Lumber is to turn sawdust and woodchips into fuel to power its drying kilns and generate electricity for its production facilities.

The company says it is setting new eco-friendly standards for the flooring industry while also growing production by acquiring an additional manufacturing site in Madison.

The acquisition of Madison Wood Flooring’s 12-acre premises includes a mill, kilns and warehouses, giving Mountain Lumber the ability to streamline its operation, increase output and improve yields.

Mountain Lumber sources its timber from demolition jobs around the world and turns it into flooring, beams and other wood products. Its core range is Historic Heart Pine and Antique American Oak, reclaimed from former mills on the US east coast.
