James Callander & Son Ltd’s plans to build a £10m new sawmill have been welcomed by Scotland’s environment minister.

Minister Michael Russell welcomed the company’s plans, approved by planners last December, during a visit to the current James Callander sawmill in Falkirk. He was accompanied by Forestry Commission Scotland director Dr Bob Mcintosh and Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson.

“We are encouraged by the interest that the Scottish government is now showing in forestry and wood products and hope that this will result in increased commercial planting of conifer crops,” said managing director Gordon Callander.

James Callander’s new mill will be built near Kincardine in West Fife.
