New Zealand’s economic development minister Jim Anderton has rounded on the country’s forestry industry, telling it to change its ways.
Mr Anderton, speaking at the Forest Owners’ Association annual meeting in Wellington, said laying off workers when prices fell was damaging the industry’s workforce. He also said it needed to improve supplies and the cost of logs to the domestic market.
The minister, who promotes forestry as a model for government business partnerships, is pushing to release government funding to the industry in recognition of its role in creating carbon credits.
