The government has admitted to misleading parliament over the origins of wood used in the cabinet office refurbishment.
The building was invaded on April 10 by Greenpeace protestors claiming the sapele being used in doors and windows was logged in a Cameroon rainforest. The government initially said that all the wood was certified. But cabinet office minister Christopher Leslie now says it only stipulated certified timber for the doors and doorsets. He was responding to questioning on the refurbishment of the cabinet office in the House of Commons.
Deputy prime minister John Prescott confirmed that an inquiry was under way into the whole issue.
