The newly commissioned NCT Durban Wood Chips facility is expected to boost South Africa’s export revenue by R150m a year and place another 360,000 tons of hardwood chips on the market.
The R80m mill will export eucalyptus and wattle chips to Japanese paper manufacturers.
The plant, which will be up to a 35,000 ton monthly capacity by January, has an enclosed chip storage shed that will stockpile two shipoads of chips.
The NCT Forest Co-operative is now considering a new joint venture mill with Swedish pulp product Södra Cell.
