Microtec has come out top in a strength grading machine test programme involving Finnish research body VTT.

A VTT scientific paper “Strength of European Timber” outlines the findings of the Gradewood testing, focusing on the properties of spruce and pine using five strength grading machines – the Microtec GoldenEye-706, Weinig Combiscan, Weinig Escan, Brookhuis MTG, Rosens Rosegrade and CBS-CBT Triomatic.

The Gradewood test programme also involved several universities and organisations in France, Switzerland and Sweden.

Goldeneye was found to provide the highest co-efficient of determination for pine and spruce tensions and bending strength. Weinig’s Combiscan was the second best performance.
