Michael Dickson, chairman of engineering company Buro Happold, is to present this year’s Wood Awards in at the Carpenter’s Hall in London on October 19.

The company received the Gold Award last year for its part in the winning Weald & Downland Gridshell building, designed by Edward Cullinan Architects.

An awards’ shortlist was announced at 100% Detail at Earl’s Court on September 23. The 24 projects were selected from 232 entries and spread from Dundee to Devon, ranging from homes to hospitals.

There are four principal award categories in the annual competition – private, public access, conservation and structural – with a Gold Award going to the winner of winners.

An Innovation Award additionally recognises technical innovation regardless of category and this year there is a new award for the best small project.

New sponsors this year include BRE, the Institute of Wood Science and the TTJ.
