The update follows TTJ’s recent news story revealing that Accsys, through a joint venture with INEOS, had granted a licence to Medite to build a plant to produce Tricoya modified wood fibre.

Medite is currently buying Tricoya fibre from Accsys’s Arnhem production plant to use in its Medite Tricoya Extreme Durable MDF panels.

In a new statement, Accsys says the agreement will enable Medite to produce an initial 42,000m3 of Medite Tricoya MDF panels using modified fibre it has produced at the planned plant in Clonmel.

It also says Medite has secured exclusive rights to market Tricoya MDF in Ireland, Holland and the UK, with non-exclusive rights to sell the finished product and the Tricoya fibre in other territories.

Accsys is likely to provide significant and increasing volumes of Tricoya fibre during the new plant’s start-up period to support Medite’s market development and enable Medite to provide seeding material for other prospective licensees in different regions.
Work on the new factory could start in the next financial year.

Accsys reported that sales of Tricoya MDF had met or surpassed expectations in all markets it had been launched, including the UK, Germany, Ireland and Holland, with customers willing to pay a significant premium over conventional MDF.
