Accoya modified wood creator Titan Wood has signed a joint development agreement with Medite Europe Ltd to commercialise modified MDF panels.

The new name given to wood chips, fibres and particles modified by Titan’s acetylation technology is Tricoya Wood Elements.

It is being billed as the first major innovation in the wood composites industry in more than 30 years.

Using Tricoya Wood Elements is designed to improve panel product dimensional stability and durability significantly, enabling licensed products to be used in new applications, including exterior and high moisture environments.

Under the agreement, due to be formally signed at the Irish Embassy in London on June 11, Medite is granted an exclusive licence to develop, manufacture, market, distribute and sell licensed products within the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Medite will explore the commercialisation of the technology at its Clonmel factory.

The agreement follows an extensive period of joint research and development between Medite and Titan.
