Weyerhaeuser‘s Medite MDF has been heavily used in the new £23m Copenhagen Opera House.

The 14-storey building’s auditorium features 2,000m2 of curved 15mm Medite flame retardant MDF in maple veneer.

Furniture manufacturer Bruno Hansen Snedkerier machined the panels to obtain the curves required, while a cherry red pigmented lacquer was used, overlaid with two coasts of clear lacquer.

Medite MDF (18mm) has also been used in a free-standing acoustic wall in the main rehearsal room. The panels’ precisely machined grooves and perforations form an integral part of the room’s acoustic qualitites.

Double rows of panels move up and down automatically, with some absorbing sound and others reflecting it.
