A plywood Tardis has proved to be a hit for Liverpool-based MDL Timber.
The family-run firm has been displaying the timber version of Dr Who’s time travel machine at its site on Denbigh Street since Christmas and has seen interest in it “snowball”.
Manager Greg Mercer said that the shed was originally designed as a “gimmick” to help the company fill a lapse in business just before Christmas but there is now scope to mass produce the design and market it properly.
“In the next few weeks we’re looking at getting a website up for it and starting to market it properly,” said Mr Mercer.
“There has been a fantastic response and hopefully it’ll lead to something else for the business.”
He added that there are a “few other options in the pipeline” for themed garden buildings and that the company would be continuing its ethos of creating non-standard structures, such as its range of funky sheds.
The design of the structure includes routed joinery that provides clean joints and allows it to be flat-pack delivered and erected in just 15 minutes.
