Innovative MDF roof line products are being piloted at a Bovis show house in Essex.

The installation at the Chafford Hundred development near Thurrock, through a manufacturing partnership between Willamette Europe Ltd and Balcas, represents a key stage in a two-year project to develop the products.

Funded by the DTI Partners in Innovation Programme, the project aims to develop, produce and performance-assess components such as soffit, fascia and barge boards from wood based composite products, with an expected life of more than 20 years and minimum maintenance.

The BRE has tested the products and will assess them while in use over the next six months.

Best practice guidance on selecting, fixing and maintaining the products is being formulated.
